Have you tried the title tool?

Create a box the size of your frame and play with the transparency. You can control the gradient by adjusting the size of the box.

You’ll get more control of the gradient by using Photoshop, though. Export a frame of video, import into PShop. Create a transparency and save as a .png.

Try rolling your QTversion back to 7.0. Thats the version that will work with your version of Avid.

You can buy whatever you want. But in order for XPress Pro to work properly, you need to buy whats on the list. Yes, its expensive. But if you are making money off this system, it’ll pay for itself.

I could only find spec for 5.7.5 – the highest QT version is 7.2 – you say you are running 7.3. I don’t know if that’s the problem, and I can’t find 5.8 specs.

[brin philips] “the mcstate file self loads every time the program is started so this seems a waste of time – graphics card is Radeon 9600”

Deleting the MCState is usually the first thing I do when troubleshooting. Sometimes it gets corrupted, and as simple as it is, it solves many problems.

Having a qualified graphics card is very important. It’s hard to troubleshoot a system if the it’s not ‘up to specs’. Avid has tested the systems it certifies. If you stray from those specs, it’s really hard to say what’s causing your problems…

It very well could be – the specs are pretty specific on a TI FW controller.

Has this system ever captured footage (in it’s current state)?

Don’t use your edit machine to run iTunes. If the idea is to make money with your machine, do what you need to do to keep it running right. If it means hooking your iPod up to your computer speakers to get your jam on, then that’s what you gotta’ do.
