March 14, 2008 at 11:38 am in reply to: issues exporting progressive footage to quicktimeMy guess (I don’t use progressive footage) was how you captured it. I’m guessing the way you captured the footage (using a comsumer camcorder) started the problem. I’m thinking your camcorder isn’t sending the progressive information, or maybe Avid isn’t recognizing it as such… Did you use Avid to capture the footage, or did you use a different program?
Is there anyway you redigitize using the XL2?
Are you working in a progressive project within Avid?
What is your destination format? If it’s DVD, continue with the process and look at it on a TV and a computer. See if it clears up.

It’s always something simple! Believe it or not, I was really racking my brain over this one. I’m glad you figured it out!

Just out of curiosity, what model is your camera (EX-1, etc.)? Specifically, have you digitized audio from this camera before?

Here’s a link to what machine MC needs to run on:
https://www.avid.com/products/media-composer/qualified_mac_notebooks.pdf
It doesn’t mean MC won’t run on other machines. It means Avid has tested these platforms and can offer tech support.
Also, check out the minimum requirements:
https://www.avid.com/products/media-composer/systemrequirements.asp
Make sure you run the right OS.

I’m buying a new MC / SDI Mojo system. It’s been a great system. Its had a TON of footage pushed through it, and has worked pretty much flawlessly for 7 years. Unfortunately, it does not fit well in our new work flow. It has problems exporting anything over 10 minutes (I haven’t put anything on tape in a while). It’s more of a PITA than anything else. I’ll crack a cold one when I send it out the door…

I’m running a Meridian ver 12.0.5 on OS10.2.6. It’s not the greatest (I’m having some pretty severe stability issues). Bottom line is I’m staying with ‘whut brung me to the dance’ until I get my new system.

I would roll back the update until you figure out why you are not getting audio. Adding another variable will only make it harder to diagnose what is going on.
Do you know what camer produced the footage?

You said earier your sample rate was set at48k. Avid XPress defaults to 48k, but are you sure the tapes were shot in 48k? AFAIK, VX100 cameras are set to a sample rate of 32k and can’t be changed. You’ll be able to capture, but until you set the audio project rate to 3200, you won’t be able to hear anything.
As an experiment, try setting the sample rate to 32k and see what happens.

Michael Hancock post a link to a matrix showing what version of QT you should be running: (you are running the correct version)….
Can you play the effect at all? Have you tried doing a mixdown of just the effect? (mark an in – out on your effect and go to video mixdown)….
