How are you capturing the DV footage (firewire, composite)? What device are you using to capture the footage (model #, etc)?

It depends on what you do. Are you audio savvy? Vegas is great with audio. Do a lot of multicam? Avid is pretty good there.

BTW, XPress Pro is going the way of the dinosaur – Media Composer is the primary software package now.

Is this for archival purposes? Export an OMFI sequence and save it to disk….

Traditionally multicam is done at an ‘m’ resoulution. If you work at ‘m’ resolution, any ‘approved’ system will work fine. You can use higher resolutions, but you won’t get real-time playback. You’ll only be able to scrub through the footage.

I guess no one got caught up in the OS9 to OSX fiasco. I had to buy brand new versions of PShop and After Effects! And I’ll bet FCP users had to buy a new Intel Mac to run the latest FCP version…

To echo Bob’s comments, buy from an authorized reseller. Not only do you save yourself alot of headaches, you get peace of mind. You know it will work out of the box. If you live fairly close to an authorized reseller, you have support as well.

I use Sorenson to encode, and Encore to create the DVD.

In the deck preferences setting, make sure ‘digitize across timecode breaks’ selection is checked.

Also, make sure your connections are tight between the deck and the keyspan.
