Yeah, the Meridian had an option to watch each frame it was rendering. It was the most painful thing to watch – so I always turned it off.

It really shouldn’t matter what they shoot in vs. what you edit in. The problem comes when trying to change the sample rate mid-edit. You’ll see your audio drift pretty significantly. I would edit at whatever sample rate they give me, and I’d ask for 48k.

There is a setting in the Firestore to increase the length of the clips – but I think the max is 13 minutes. So strictly speaking, they are not spanned clips, just seperate clips and Avid sees them as such.
So the multiple clips is more of a Firestore thing. It’s a pain, but I just sort the clips by date / time, and alt-drag them into the the sequence bin (or just drag them – I think the alt drag is old school Avid…)

When you import, check the options and select the option you need. I’m not in front of an Avid right now, and I don’t remember the right one. I think in the newer version, there’s an option called maintain horizontal/vertical scan. You can also using the Pan and Scan effect…

The answers you got over at the Avid forum are all pretty solid. If someone is looking to rent an Avid, they know more than enough to make a decision already.
The ‘value added’ would be what type of support are you offering? You can rent an Avid system from just about anywhere. The clincher would be what? Local on-site support? Avid sells itself. You need to figure out how to sell your service.

How are you going to sell a product you don’t believe in? If your boss is making the move to Final Cut or another edit system it seems apparent he (and you?) have lost faith in an Avid systems ability to do the job for you. People who use Avid will know what a Nitris system is, and will gladly pay a fair price for it. People who don’t know should be doing their due diligence – researching the system right for them. Don’t try to sell them a bill of goods just to unload a system. There are plenty of consignment places (TVPro.com is one off the top of my head) that will take your system and get a fair price for it.

I’d try using the compression effect in the audiosuite tool. Go to tools>audiosuite. When the window opens, you’ll see a pulldown menu – select compression. Click on the square effect icon in the middle of the window, and another window will open. You don’t really need to mess with anything except gain. You can preview and make adjustments from this window.

Couldn’t you do that in Sorenson? I haven’t played with a .tga sequence, but a QT to Sorenson encoded to .tga…
Isn’t a targa sequence progressive by nature? It’s just a bunch of stills, right?

Load filler (fast menu over source monitor), mark an in / out, insert edit into your sequence.
OR, you could select insert edit mode (I think that’s what it’s called – it’s the little yellow arrow), shift select everything to the right (one of the newer features in MC is ‘select all to the right from here’, but I haven’t used it yet, and don’t know how it works), and use the ‘M, comma, period, and slash to move the highlighted clips.
