    Hi,

This is my second post about this. One post is in the AVID forum and then the second in this basics forum. I’m hoping I will get different responses from people at different levels of editing. I work for a guy named Dave Rosen at Absolute Post in Burbank California and he wants me to put up an AD on craigslist about these new Nitrus AVIDs he bought. The only problem is I went to film school, but not for editing. I need help. What should I tell people about this system? Why would they use AVID instead of Final Cut or another type of editing program. Can anybody give me a couple of ideas on what to write about? He wants more than just the stats of the system. I’m supposed to give real world info about using AVID Nitrus. Please help. Important for my job.

    Thanks,
    Vanessa

How are you going to sell a product you don’t believe in? If your boss is making the move to Final Cut or another edit system it seems apparent he (and you?) have lost faith in an Avid systems ability to do the job for you. People who use Avid will know what a Nitris system is, and will gladly pay a fair price for it. People who don’t know should be doing their due diligence – researching the system right for them. Don’t try to sell them a bill of goods just to unload a system. There are plenty of consignment places (TVPro.com is one off the top of my head) that will take your system and get a fair price for it.

    Hi Jon,

Thank you for responding to my post. Actually my boss really believes in AVID that’s why he purchased these Nitris systems. He’s trying to rent them out to people. He himself is a post sound supervisor and entrepreneur. He’s not going to sell the systems just rent them to people. I’m just not sure how to post an AD about AVID on sites like craigslist when I personally am not an editor. The problem is I don’t know the practical side of these products. I can list stats but some people want to know why Nitris is so great and why they would pay this price to rent this machine. As you can see I am kind of stuck that way. Thank you for your response though. You’re confidence in editors knowing and wanting the Nitris system gives me hope that even just with stats they will be interested enough to at least call about the rental. Thanks again. If you can give me any information or opinions about using AVID I would appreciate it greatly.

    Thanks,
    Vanessa

The answers you got over at the Avid forum are all pretty solid. If someone is looking to rent an Avid, they know more than enough to make a decision already.

The ‘value added’ would be what type of support are you offering? You can rent an Avid system from just about anywhere. The clincher would be what? Local on-site support? Avid sells itself. You need to figure out how to sell your service.
