    This is simple. File>Import

This will give you the option to either import a single layer, merge the layers to a flattened file, or import as comp. You probably want a comp in this case. A comp brings in all layers just as they are in photoshop. If you double click on the comp. It will open in the timeline just as it is in photoshop. If a layer has it’s eyeball off in photoshop, it will be off in the comp also. You can also open the folder and bring in one layer at a time into a previously existing comp.

Here is a suggestion of what I generally do. Play the audio with the ram preview before you put in any video or graphics. As you go along the timeline, with the audio layer selected, hit the asterix (*) on key words. This places a marker. you can then double click on the marker and label it. I do this for the start of each line of text and on key words. Then, I do not have to play back the audio as I am editing in AE.

  • Or, just try doing it the easy way which also is probably the way they did it. Use lighting with Green Gels from Rosco, Lee, or Gam. If you watch the traielr closely, you can see areas that have green lights on them, the actors sometimes have a green tinge from the light. But, sometimes, they have a different color completely (like white). Sure, I guess that this could be done in the computer but that sure sounds like the hard way to do it.

  • Simply render the file as a quicktime file with the setting RGB+ alpha. If you used some quictime formats, they will not allow an alpha channel. Use the animation setting. It will work best for this purpose.

DO NOT DEFRAG A VIDEO DRIVE. Thi swill cause havoc on your AVID system. The manual says explicitly not to defrag. If you do, your system will not work unless you completely rebuild your database. The Avid software uses a fragmented system on purpose. Especially on a computer with a RAID system. The fragmenterd files can be accesses faster by using that AVID database and that is what allows your system to work without thousands of dollars worth od extra hardware. Once again, DO NOT DEFRAG!

If you are going to consider that route, this site has several versions shot against a green screen for you.

However, making it yourself gives you much more control over it.

It is very easy to make animated smoke using fractal noise on a layer and then changing the blending mode. I believe that there is a tutorial on this in the cow but I could be wrong. It is pretty easy though, just play around with it.

After Effects does not have an explicit morphing program or plug-in that I know of but Morphing can be done through various techniques. Fir instance, if you are morphing a vector graphic, you can copy the outline of the shape in illustrator and paste it onto the shape propertiers of a mask. Then, either animate those points or paste another shape onto the same mask at a different point on the timeline.

There are a lot of effects packages out there that offer these types of effects. They are very easy to use and can be customized easily. If you can’t afford one, there are lots of things that you can manipulate with adjusting the hue and saturation for the color effect part, the dust and scratches would probably need to be put on manually, and the strobe effect can be done manually or with a strobe effect.
