You could parent the objects but that is not the simple way to do it. Just click on the top layer of the ones that you want to transform. Then hold down shift and click the bottom layer. All layers between them will be selected. Then, whatever changes you make to one layer, will also be made to all of the other selected layers. If your layers are not grouped together, use Ctrl instead of shift and select them individually while holding Ctrl down. It works the same way.

  • This also insures that the large size of your video files bogging down your computer. You are not supposed to defrag your video files so this also allows you to defrag your hard drive that the system files run on without damaging the video. RAID 1 will back up the hard drive and alleviate the problem mentioned above in the other thread, however, you would them need a minimum of 4 hard drives. Also, the use of two drives allows for a higher sustained data transfer rate. This makes it to where there are less crashes on long video files due to the reduced chance of underrun errors.

  • Good luck on this one. I had the same problem with mine and I am on a PC. They do not offer support for this product because it is a low-end part of their line. I had to actually talk to the president of the company to get something done and since I am a broadcaster who spends close to a million dollars a year, I was able to get it done. I was origionally told that I had to go to their online forums (Which are moderated by people like you and me, not employees of AVID) Anyway, it all ended up that there is a hotfix for windows that I had to uninstall and then it worked. I would think that it is the same type of problem with your MAC. You probably need to uninstall a certin patch and it will work. I just don’t know which one it would be.

  • It seems to me that you are doing something completely wrong. Why don’t you try to give detailed examples of your problems and let us help you work them our. It should not take you more thatn about 1/2 of a second to render a dissolve. Motion titles are no problem either, give me some more info.

There are tons of ways to do this. I would look around through the tutorials section of this web site. If you have a specific type of background, let me know and I’ll explain it. If you are just wanting something in general, this site has lots of tutorials. Also, if you are using AE7, there are presets for it.

Do you have a compositing program like After Effects? It would be much, much easier in that type of program. Avid is generally more for basic editing of footage unless you have a very high end model.

One thing that you might try if all else fails is to export the file as a filmstrip. Then open it in photoshop and apply the effect. The file will be pretty big so you may want to do just the frames that need the effect or do 5 to 10 seconds at a time.

For the most part, After Effects and Photoshop work completely differently. However, some of the features do transfer over (i.e. Blending Modes, Effects available) but those features are pretty much self explanitory. However, it is very usefuyl to know Photoshop simply because you can take files from AE to Photoshop to add much more power and versitility without spending thousands of dollars on extra effects.
