Are there filters for after effects comparible to those in illustrator for creating artistic effects i.e. palette knife, poster edges?

If not, is there a way to use illustrator to apply these filters to a file sequence of frames?

    thanks much!

Yes, AE has some effects like those in Illustrator and Photoshop. Look under the Stylize category in AE7 (they rearranged the categories in AE7, if you’re using an earlier version they might be in a different place).

If you have Illustrator CS or CS2, you can create an action to apply an effect and then batch process a still image sequence rendered from AE.

One thing that you might try if all else fails is to export the file as a filmstrip. Then open it in photoshop and apply the effect. The file will be pretty big so you may want to do just the frames that need the effect or do 5 to 10 seconds at a time.
