Yes, AE does have layer masks. Go to the menu bar LAYER>ADD LAYER MASK. The you should see a yellow rectangle with points around the footage. If you do not, you will need to turn on that feature at the bottom of the footage window.
Also, I have not watched that tutorial, but you may need to make sure that your effect settings say render composite.

I would be careful of spending this type of money also. If you ask around, you will find out that most people do not really value a Master’s Degree all that much. It is only good for people wanting to go into education. The only reason besides that to get a master’s in just about anything is to make contacts with people in the industry. If you are taking the class online, you will not be likely to get personal contacts. Thik this through before spending the money.

either you need more RAM or a better video card. Since it is invigorator that gives you the problem, my guess is the video card. A good way around this is to render the layer with the 3D in it’s own comp with an alpha. Then, bring that rendered footage into the main comp and render. This usually works great.

Is this for TV or for the web. A computermonitor can display millions of colors. However, your TV screen typically only displays 256 colors. On top of this, even if you are using it on a computer, one of your settings may be set for broadcast and therefore it is reducing the number of colors.

try turning on the grid feature. It will provide you with guidelines.

Another possible help is to hold down the shift key when adjusting the handles. This will keep the lines straight.

The third thing that may help you is to make the club in Illustrator and inport it in as your mask.

    Ctrl+Shift+N

  • A very easy to accomplish this is to play with the blending modes on the layer. You can do this by selelcting the layer and clicking “ctrl +” or “ctrl -“. Another thing that you might try is doing a luma key and key out darker.
