I am not sure where you are getting that black equals transparent in AE. I have never had that happen. The only way that this might be is if you saves a file with an alpha channel and it looks black in windows but it is really transparent. If I understand your question correctly, you do not need a transparent layer. Simply create a new layer in AE and then apply 3D Invigotator to it. One of the settings is to not render that layer but only the effect. In fact, this should be the default.

    Basically, it’s just easier.

This could be a 50 page essay but I often do it by making a nice animated background and just masking off the comp. This also allows for irregular shapes on your lower third which often looks more professional.

Using trapcode lux would be the easiest but if you don’t have that, you might try making a layer and masking it to a triangular shape. Then feather the maske and animate the points of the triangle. Then play with the blending mode of the layer. This should actually work pretty well. To add a final touch of a lens flare of something from the knoll light factory would even make it look more professional.

Your best bet is to purchase automatic duck

  • DVD is actually MPEG 2. You can use that or try sorensen 3 under the quicktime settings. On my machine, it actually gives me a better quality vido than uncompressed and it is much smaller.

You can only copy keyframes from one layer at a time but you can paste the keyframes on multiple layers.

I usually just hook a cheap dvd player up to the input on my firewire deck. Then play the dvd and record on the system just as I would a tape.

Make one mask, then click on the keyframe for mask shape. Skip about every 10 frames and adjust the points, this will make it pretty close. You can adjust from there. An easier way to do it is to do the first frams and the last frame and then go to the middle keyframe and adjust. Then just keep splitting between the keyframes. This way, you will have to move less points each time.
