Being unable to hide the app (at least consistently) is a known bug. I haven’t noticed any render speed differences, but have been experiencing nasty kernel crashes since updating to 10.4.6 🙁

If you have AE7 just drop your anamorphic clip into your comp and choose LAYER > TRANSFORM > FIT TO COMP WIDTH – easy 🙂JD

It sounds like you need to make your custom particle layer duration longer.

This has been completely removed from AE7 and replaced with the Graph Editor.

How about copying the masks into Illustrator as paths and using the Unite pathfinder function, then copying the path back into AE as a mask.
