    hi,

i’ve setup a comp with particular generating clouds, and using a custom particle (layer that loops). it’s set to random still. everything’s fine, until unexpectedly and out of nowhere my particles are no where to be found. the only way i can get them back is to reset the whole thing and start from scratch. and after a while, it disappears again. what could be the problem? thanks.

It sounds like you need to make your custom particle layer duration longer.

I’m not sure, but you should check a few things:

    a) Is your animated layer properly in a pre-comp? (it should be, or otherwise it may have no proper Alpha and cause problems)

    b) Is your particle rather large? (Particular might not display them because it runs out of memory for drawing the large particles)

    c) Does your particle show up when using other custom types (Split Clip etc.)? It could well be that you simply don’t see particles because the layer is blank at some point and Particular will sample it there.

    d) Is your particle long enough (see c) for reason)?

my custom particle is a precomp, it is a cloud changing shape every few frames or so, and in particular it is set to take random stills from that comp to generate the particles. this worked fine yesterday, today, the particles just disappeared. i will extend the comp to a longer duration and loop its animation and see if this still happens. thanks!

actually, even if i switch from custom particle to smoke or the default particles, nothing shows up. it seems the only fix is resetting particular and doing it all again, but then again it happens again after a while.
