The Smooth Tiler filter in our Anarchy Toolbox does this as well and gives you additional options for seamless blending, rotating, and cropping the image.

I’ve got HP’s 23″ (model# 2335) and it’s great. Very happy with it. Certainly as good as the Apple 23″ we have here and has a standard VGA port (along w/ DVI) in case you need to plug it into an older machine for some reason. 1920×1200 res.

A displacement layer can definitely be animated. You may need to pre-comp the dismap layer, as Steve suggested.
It’s also possible that the dismap is not scaled to fit and is displacing the wrong part of your layer. If the dismap and layer to be displaced are different sizes this is a common problem.

Double check all your parameter settings to make sure they match up with what’s on the tapes. Brian and co. are usually very good about testing everything to make sure they work as expected.

This can happen when AE (or more usually a plugin) runs out of memory. The frame fails to render, but AE keeps going and (I think) provides a blank image to QT which renders it as white. Usually this doesn’t continue for long before the render fails. Check the render queue to see if the render finished or not. I’ve seen it occur for about 30-40 frames at the most before it causes a render failure.
If it continues to happen, break the render up into two sections. Render one out, restart AE, then render the second section out.

In the Composition that does work are there any other layers? Is it possible other layers may be affecting the two that you’ve shown us?
Also, check that the imported footage is interpreted correctly. Perhaps when you import it into the new project, it’s being imported with an alpha channel or some other setting switched on or off.
