August 8, 2005 at 10:52 pmThat’s what I’ve heard from a few folks, but many say that Samsung, who apparently makes the screen components for the Apple products did a slightly better job of maximizing the screen’s potential. A tiny bit better contrast, a little more light output and claims of more adjustments abound make the side-by-side comparison impossible without them both together. The supreme irony is that even though many of the components are identical, the specs are a bit different and seem to elude that I’d need to see them both to decide.
What have you heard about the new Viewsonic LCD models that just came out a few weeks ago? The sizes are amazing, up to a 42″ capable of 1600 x 1200 (or larger I believe) with inputs for HDTV, computer and almost anything else. I can’t find any literature on them but Best Buy claims to have received them and are currently distributing them to the stores where they will sell…or so they say.
Thank Chris.

August 8, 2005 at 11:05 pmDon’t know much about them. But 1600x isn’t a LOT of resolution. My “Old” Apple 22″ display does 1600x. My 23″ Apple Cinema Display on my PC does 1920×1200. The Apple 30″ displays do 2560 x 1600.
As far as HD input, sounds good. Of course decklink makes an SDI to DVI converter box or you can use a Plasma screen which will input SVGA or Component HD for a big client monitor.

August 9, 2005 at 12:36 amI was told that the highest resolution available for the largest monitor from Apple was around 2048 x something, but realistically, I have a pretty hard time coping with resolutions over 1600 for long periods.
Any other models come to mind off hand? Obviously those with the best and most accurate color, resolution and image definition would be terrific.
Thanks again

August 9, 2005 at 5:01 pmI’ve got HP’s 23″ (model# 2335) and it’s great. Very happy with it. Certainly as good as the Apple 23″ we have here and has a standard VGA port (along w/ DVI) in case you need to plug it into an older machine for some reason. 1920×1200 res.
cheers,
Jim——————

November 26, 2005 at 9:54 amI am also shopping for a display… I’m curious: Did you decide on a brand, and if so, how is it?
Kind regards,
Eric
