How come a luma matte can give you one effect in one composition and a completely different one in another?
Posted by Daniel Haskett on May 27, 2005 at 12:01 amhi there
Basically Ive been having problems using luma mattes. In one composition when I use it, it eliminates most of the white allowing any layers beneath to show thru, but in another composition it makes everytihng in the layer below inverted and horrible, I just dont understand what im doing wrong. Is it soemthing in composition settings because I cant find anything?! I just dont understand 🙁
thanks in advance

May 27, 2005 at 1:01 amHi there
Well basically, I really dont know whats wrong. Ive actually imported a composition where I know the luma matte works fine, then copied and pasted the two layers into a new composition and the same still happens! It makes absolutely no sense at all. Its like in one composition they are fine and in the other comlpetley the opposite. I can email the project but i have a feeling itd be massive casue of the size of the video….?
cheers

May 27, 2005 at 4:46 amIt looks like it is being used correctly but I’d be curious to see the files by themselves. Are you sure you’re not selecting Luma inverted? As opposed to luma?

May 27, 2005 at 11:07 amIve tried all the different alpha/luma modes and it none of them work 🙁 I found a really really long winded way where I import a project that has successful luma mattes in and then copy the compositions into my current project and use them, but its just so bizarre. Theres not really anyway I can send the files I would have thought they are too big 🙁
Thanks for your help tho!

May 28, 2005 at 1:33 amIn the Composition that does work are there any other layers? Is it possible other layers may be affecting the two that you’ve shown us?
Also, check that the imported footage is interpreted correctly. Perhaps when you import it into the new project, it’s being imported with an alpha channel or some other setting switched on or off.
cheers,
Jim——————
