Not sure, but can you create a 23.98 sequence setting in FCE? (dunno, don’t use it) if not, it won’t work. HOWEVER….
FCE should be able to capture the footage anyway at 29.97 and you can edit it all day long with it, it will look much the same in the end anyway. Only thing you’ll lose is the ability to compress the 24p footage AS 24p footage and be adding the pulldown pattern back on the fly with say a DVD Player… if the program is short, it’s sort of a moot point anyway. You can raise the data rate accordingly with your compression and get much the same quality in the end… also your data rate on these clips as you edit them will be the same as 29.97 so you won’t gain any disk space savings not getting it as true 24p.

Work in a 16:9 sequence setting I’d think… Works great.. Using Panasonic’s HD codec might be just the ticket for you too if you don’t have a capture card, nor the drives to play uncompressed HD. The resulting DVD will look better than if you’d used say an anamorphic DV sequence setting. But in any event, don’t letterbox it, as it will have to be stretched then to fill a 16:9 plasma and will artifact pretty badly. Video doesn’t enlarge very well… really perfect for graphics and text projects for sure. I’ve done a couple of them this way now, and the client was very happy indeed. Even though DVD SP will be downconverting this to SD, I’m convinced it looks better than had I started in SD in the first place.

If you mean feature… yes, it works very well indeed. But I’m unaware of any filter that is called 24p… ???

How many clips are in the browser with these longer projects? Are the clips subclips or are they master clips? I can’t reproduce this with a project file that contains maybe 200 clips or so… it’s working here.

There’s a small triangle button (fifth button over from the left side on the bottom of the Timeline Window) you need to click on to reveal the option to show clip lables in the Timeline window… must be turned on. Is it?

Let’s hope this is addressed well in FCP 5. It is an issue that’s been discussed for some time. Can’t tell you why this is, but can agree it needs work… Media Manager has a tough time with speed changed clips as well so keep that in mind… The workaround has been to “un speed change” a clip using the first and last frame needed before media manager. Same could fix a reconnection if indeed you KNOW you are going to need to do this…

I ran in 10.3.9 for quite a while and didn’t see any issues here… but best to call AJA about this I’d think for sure.

I’d be interested in knowing about this too… but figure that there’s no mechanism to accomplish it.

Right click on it and you can select the option to disable it… i.e. it remains there, but is “invisible”. you can “enable” it right back too. It’s really meant to be used to temporarily not see the clip to say, work on a composite…
I’d suggest a better workflow in the first place is to trim things up as you go, so you wouldn’t even need the option you are asking for in the first place.
