AJA K2 support news website: “AJA Video recommends that our customers stay on OS 10.3.8” (in reference to tech support for Tiger)

I will soon be picking up the K2 to finish a project shot in HDCam.

Is it therefore a mistake to have updated to 10.3.9 ???

I ran in 10.3.9 for quite a while and didn’t see any issues here… but best to call AJA about this I’d think for sure.

I’ve been tempted also to bump up to 10.3.9 but their website makes it pretty clear that 10.3.8 is the latest blessed version. Of course, I don’t know if that information is old or not. Sounds like Jerry has had good luck with it though. Makes me want to try it too and live on the wild side! Of course, hanging out with Jerry always involves being on the wild side.

i got a tech bulletin that says xraid systems experience dropped frames during capture with 10.3.9 I’m experiencing dropped frames during playback with an xraid and 10.3.9 As soon as i meet a looming deadline, I’m rolling back to 8 just to see if it makes a difference.

I would avoid 10.3.9 like the plague. Apple took some of the APIs from Tiger and stuffed them into 10.3.9 and it breaks a few things. Since Apple does not properly document changes, developers are scrambling to find the source of the changes. Even Apple’s own XRAID has issues.

We have seen issues with Medea RAIDs.

Thanks for sharing the tips. Looks like the AJA site is up to date then. 10.3.8 looks like the holy grail for Panther then since there wont be a 10.3.10 (I suppose). But hopefully this is moot anyway since Tiger development is key right now. Tiger + FCP 5 + Kona2 should be pretty darn cool. But in all honesty, I’m pretty content with how things are right now anyway in Panther.

My K2 system on 10.3.8 is the most stable and crash free I’ve ever had. I won’t be going anywhere near FCP 5 and Tiger untill at least the end of the summer. I’ll leave all the headaches to you guys. Maybe I’ll put tiger on my powerbook though.

Thanks for all of your help.

I spoke to AJA tech support, they said best to stick with 10.3.8 but that the problem was with Xserve RAIDs only.

Apparently 10.3.9 was creating write-to-disk issues and resulting in dropped frames on the Xserve drives.

    Hello,

We are running a Kona2 with 10.3.9 and a Mediavault u-320R 800gig. No particular problems so far.

    bye,

    Jeff
