1280×720 from letterboxed 720 x 480
I was working a project a while ago where the client was looking for 1280×720 footage but miscomminucated that to his shooter who then provided me with letterboxed mini DV 720×480 footage. Playing it out and using the HD TV screen’s zoom feature looked like shit. Stretching the video size in FCP looked like shit. A couple of post houses ran it through conversion and compression boxes ($$$$) and it looked like shit still.
Finally I exported the the dv signal as uncompressed 4:2:2 from FCP and imported it into shake. In shake I selected only the portion of the video I wanted (in order to preserev the aspect ratio) and resized it to 1280 x 720 and then exported that as 10 bit uncompressed 4:2:2. Back in FCP edit and then mpeg2 encode out and played on a massive tv – verdict + looks great. But takes about 16 hours of rendering for 8 minutes of video.Does anyone know an easier or faster way to do this?
