Select everything you want to delete in the Browser.

Control click on one item and select “Make Offline”. Follow the prompts.

Then to delete render files, open the Render Manager from the Tools menu. And delete all renders from the dialog box which will open. This is the only way to really sort what’s getting deleted render file wise.

Yes, when you open the monitor prefs, you can simply drag the menu bar in that window from one to the other.

  • Best bet is a faster CPU, Tiger and 8 gigs of RAM.

Even in OS 9 you could move the menu bar to the other monitor… no problems there.

If you run more than one app at time, I’d certainly want another display… no matter where it is.

You should edit in NTSC… do a standards conversion in the end. Graeme Nattress’ plugin works great… https://www.nattress.com

I’m not sure that TIger is ready for prime time. If you have the choice to stay in Panther, you’re safer… I sure love it’s promise though, and FCP 5 will likely run better in it… but 4.5 isn’t qualified to run in Tiger yet by Apple… so…

He’s going to be shooting NTSC in reality, so it would be best to edit it as such… i.e. capture it as NTSC or if the shoot was using the advanced pulldown mode (24pA) you can remove the pulldown during the capture process. You’ll need an NTSC monitor to see this material externally, and you’ll need an NTSC deck (DSR-11 comes to mind) to record back to tape as well.

What I’m saying is STAY in the native format for the best end results. If a PAL version is needed, make it in the end as a standards conversion of the master.

  • I’m pretty sure then, that you need to capture this material at 29.97. The difference in the end is really nada anyway. In order to see 24p on an NTSC monitor, it must be 29.97 with the pulldown added back in (FCP will do this on the fly, but FCE will not). In essence, this is what’s recorded in the first place anyway. That camera can only shoot 29.97, it’s just spreading 24 frames over those 30 by adding fields to half of them when it records in the first place. you’ll really not lose quality nor the film look capturing it as normal DV NTSC video.

As has been suggested, you can, but it won’t find a browser clip that’s once been deleted. Even reimporting it won’t make the shift+f command show the new reference…
