FCP 4.5 and Tiger ?
Posted by Christopher Tay on May 11, 2005 at 7:08 amHi,
Sorry if this has been answered before but just need to quickly know if it’s safe to run FCP 4.5 with Tiger.
Thanks,

May 11, 2005 at 1:11 pmI’m not sure that TIger is ready for prime time. If you have the choice to stay in Panther, you’re safer… I sure love it’s promise though, and FCP 5 will likely run better in it… but 4.5 isn’t qualified to run in Tiger yet by Apple… so…

May 11, 2005 at 2:02 pmI have Tiger running on my secondary machine, FCP seems okay with it, just some quirks with h264 is all so far.

May 11, 2005 at 3:25 pmWe tried Tiger and the round trip from FCP Motion and back doesn’t keep the effects applied in Motion. Motion crashed more and FCP crashed more and this was a clean install with just FCP HD and Motion installed. So were back on 10.3.8.

I’ll definitely second that. Too many quirks for Tiger to come close to my FCP machines right now. Bottom line, if FCP 4.5 and OS 10.3.8 are working fine for you, don’t update yet.
I’m going to wait for FCP 5 to be released before I move Tiger to my machines and hopefully we’ll have a 10.4.1 update at that time. It runs ok on my laptop, but Safari, Mail and iPhoto still don’t work right and those are Apple apps.

May 17, 2005 at 6:18 pmMy simple-dimple system did fine with FCP 4.5 and Tiger. I’ve just installed OS 10.4.1. Still seems fine!
