I think your problems might disappear with FCP 5.0.2 on 10.4.2 and QT 7.0.2… (which is what I’m running today)
That said, I’ve had terrific results running 4.5 systems on Panther… 10.3.8, QT 6.5.2 and FCP 4.5 with my Kona 2 runs very nicely. I’m not convinced that FCP 4.5 on Tiger with QT 7 is reliable at all, but also must admit I’ve not ever really given this combo a go either.

Sounds to me like you have a problem with the FireWire bus on the computer which is cranky. I’d be taking this into a repair station for a look see… another FW card might also fix this because it creates a new FW bus for the computer.

Don’t think that Motion 2 will interact well with FCP 4.5 for sure… I’m not seeing a lot of problems opening 4.5 projects in 5… I’d duplicate a 4.5 project first however, and keep a version of 4.5 running as suggested by Steve… I did this by using a second startup disk for the new Studio… I’m running a dual boot system now, but really haven’t had much occasion to run the 4.5 system anymore.

Maybe a software problem… If you didn’t install Tiger as a totally clean installation (as in erase and install), you’ll see some pretty strange stuff…

I think the Animation codec on a sequence that size is too much for your drives possibly? What’s the data rate of one of these guys? I’ll bet it’s huge.

Is there a common media file being used by the three stations that are networked? This error is commonly caused by a media file that FCP doesn’t like for whatever reason. Might take that file offline and see if the error persists.

Is the FW cable on it’s own bus, or is it looped through a FW drive? if so, that’s probably the problem. Some drives allow for this, and others simply don’t. The fix is to add a FW bus to your PB via a PC card…

I think I’d just stay as native as possible… so capture via FireWire or SDI as DVCPRO50, and edit away…
