I’m afraid that FCP isn’t scriptable. BUT…
Once you set an in point in the viewer, you can dial in a duration by typing in the Viewer’s duration TC field there which will set an out point.
Typing cmd+j will open a window to set the speed change. Probably should do this first then set the duration… F9 key will keystroke the edit if you’ve changed the expose keyboard shortcuts in your system preferences. If you don’t move the Timeline or Canvas’ play head, the edit will go right after the last one. If I’ve read you right, this is about as close to a keystroke only edit as I can think of. You can also type cmd+4 to activate the Browser, and use the arrow keys to navigate through it, and when you’ve selected a clip that way, typing on the return key opens it in the Viewer so you can set an in point to start the process.

The forward delete key will always ripple delete (the one with the little x on it right?). You have it backwards I think.

I’d suggest the IO because its outboard and thus also portable… one Io might be able to serve more than one bay that way (at least for a while)?

Try a self contained version of the program if it’s not… sort of sounds like a bad media file in there causing this, and maybe an export will straighten it out.

Each of these captured and logged clips should be master clips… there’s no setting that would cause FCP to report these clips as subclips… can you import those captured clips (the QT movies themselves on your scratch disk, and when you do aren’t they master clips?

You mean there’s no timecode associated with the earlier captures? You can’t just select the offline material and recapture it via timecode? If you can’t, I’ll wager it might be easier to start over using dubs of the material so there IS timecode.

Not a setting issue don’t think…
Much more likely a dirty camera, or a tape whose timecode track isn’t up to snuff. You probably can use capture now, and set your device control setting to “non controllable device” and capture the footage, albeit without correct timecode. Or dub the tape via firewire to rebuild a more robust copy.

Post more about how you are using the Trim tool… i.e. are you playing back the b side and hear the a side’s audio? or?

I don’t think there’s an easy way to do this unfortunately… however copy and pasting the TC from these offline clips between open viewers might be the way to create subclips that match the offline logged clips.
The real issue here is why your machine had problems batching the logged clips in the first place. Might have made a dub of a tape that was behaving poorly. What was the source of the camera masters? DV? which camera/deck are you using?
