I think I’d transfer the PAL clips to NTSC with the standards conversion in Compressor 2, or use the filter here: https://www.nattress.com (faster I hear). Then edit with the converted footage.

Afraid you can’t do that, however you could create a template in Photoshop and overlay this file on a temp basis?

FCP has a fine set of color correction tools, and I’d think that an FCP system would be the easiest way to take your offline to an online edit. Whatever you’ve done in offline, will translate completely intact in an online session.

Yeah, if you change the speed in the viewer, it will be applied to the master clip. However, you could duplicate your master clip first, and change the speed of the copy…

I’d think that I’d have an authorized repair center look at the deck that causes the error messages, especially if the same tape in another machine works OK…

Dual 2.7 CPU. AJA’s Kona 2, Huge systems 4 gig dual fibre channel array, ATTO Celerity card for the array.
4 gigs RAM (or more if the editors are running lots of apps at the same time). This will result in not only a reliable setup, but will result in the most RT you can get. None of the capture cards out there do any better RT and I think customer service is best from these companies.This be the best IMHO.

Try exporting a self contained QT movie using “current settings”. You’d gain nada exporting it as anything other than DV anyway.

Where did the “mixed sound” file come from? i.e. what’s it’s source, and post more about how and where this file came from and it’s frame rate… This isn’t due to a drop/non drop TC problem. All NTSC is still 29.97 whether it’s drop frame code or not. TC numbering is different between the two formats, but the frame rate is the same between them.
Post which versions of OS, QuickTime, and FCP you are running, and have you installed all the latest drivers for the Kona and the X Serve RAID? If the audio file’s frame rate is different, it’s a different story…. you’ll need to get one that’s 29.97 fps drop frame or not… if the file’s frame rate is 30fps, then my guess is that this is the problem.Jerry

Wish I could replicate this, but my display card went south this morning (what I’m seeing here on my system could be called digital art LOL… but maybe help will come faster if you post how you got to your current software setup…i.e. did you perform a totally clean install of Tiger, then install FCP 5 over it? Gotta admit that I’ve not keyframed changes in a drop shadow in the current software so can’t say it’s not a bug… However, strange things are happening on systems that were simply upgraded from previous OS and FCP HD installs… maybe your problem is due to that? Might add too that what you are doing should work without the jitters… so don’t think it’s user error or anything like it.
Might try just moving the picture in picture to a whole number vertically if you’re not. i.e. not .96 but at 1 or 0…?

This sounds like a software install problem… I sure don’t see anything of the sort here with a similar system… If you aren’t running Tiger, I’d suggest you get there…. but with a totally clean install…. no upgrade, start from scratch on a new partition or drive is easiest, otherwise you need to backup your files on that current startup disk before you perform an erase and install of Tiger on it. Update Tiger, then install FCP, then update it… add to the mix the latest drivers for your capture cards…
