What you’d not get is the SMPTE phosphors that the Sony monitors have— that’s the biggie… they are more color accurate. But the JVC is a TON better than a TV because you can set it up properly with bars, and is likely close enough.

Upgrade to 5.0.4 and QT 7.0.4 and OS 10.4.6 if you haven’t already.
Seems to me if you restart FCP, the problems may go away. If you simply select the clips you want to capture you shouldn’t have a problem with them. How are you selecting what is to be batched?

Narrow down the problem. Try capturing with the canopus to the errant tower.

Are you monitoring this externally?
I’ll bet the HD camera’s footage is a lot better in general… but the SD natively should look OK.

How is the LaCie formatted? Should be Mac OS Extended. Also how are you connecting your video I/O? might try not passing it thru the LaCie if you are.

That’s your problem I’ll bet if you don’t have psd files with blank layers in them. You need a couple of gigs at least and if you want to run RAM hungry apps like Photoshop and Motion you’ll want more.

If the transition isn’t all that critical in placement, I’ll add one, usually getting that little 1 framer… then adjuse the edit point in the transition editor to create a longer one.

Read the article on DV titles at https://www.kenstone.net by Philip Hodgetts, will fix you right up… it’s the DV codec that plays havoc with rolling titles…
