Boy, I’ve read most, if not all, of the posts on this issue and I still can’t seem to solve my problem. First, let me say I DO believe the problem was caused by my overloaded hard drives. (I have 512 mb RAM.)

So far what I’ve done is:

    – clear out space on all drives so there’s plenty of room
    – used the sys CD to repair permissions
    – deleted the render files
    – tried copying the sequence to another new project folder
    – tried changing my FCP cache RAM settings
    … maybe more; I can’t remember it all now…

FYI, I’m trying to work on somebody else’s project, with their hard drives. All of MY projects still come up OK. But when I open this one, then double-click to load the first sequence (or any sequence) I get the error message: Out of Memory.

I’d really welcome any other thoughts you kind folks might have…

Did you say that you have 512 MB of RAM? If I’m not mistaken, 512 is the absolute bare minimum of RAM needed to run FCP. You should think about increasing your RAM to at least 2 GB.

That’s your problem I’ll bet if you don’t have psd files with blank layers in them. You need a couple of gigs at least and if you want to run RAM hungry apps like Photoshop and Motion you’ll want more.
