Hey guys i had a bit of a problem trying to capture video(dv)on my G5 (dual 2.0 1gig ram, 200g Lacie Firewire) it seems it would freeze on the first frame when attempt to capture i did all the “diagnostics” and still nothing. I also changed my settings to capture on internal drive and same exact problem. So i tried to capture with same external drive through my G4 (1.67) and capturing with no problem. any ideas suggestions. thank you in advance.

How is the LaCie formatted? Should be Mac OS Extended. Also how are you connecting your video I/O? might try not passing it thru the LaCie if you are.

yes it is Mac OS Extended. my video is hooked up through a jvc dv/dvcam deck firewire. but when i captured through the powerbook i am going in using dv/analog converter (canopus)

Narrow down the problem. Try capturing with the canopus to the errant tower.

The problem is a simple one… You are trying to capture and write to a drive on the same firewire bus. It doesn’t matter how many fire ports you have on your powerbook, they all use the same bus. Try adding a firewire card to your powerbook and hoo the drives up thru that. Then whe you are done, unhook your capture device and you can use any firewire port to edit with.
