The white screen usually indicates that the codec used can’t be found… the fix may simply be a trashing of the prefs. Try that first.

I’ll bet it’s as fast as realtime or faster on a dual G5… so not too bad.

I’m talking about UNUSED media… i.e. media PAST the current last frame of the outgoing shot and unused in the sequence, but captured, and media unused but existing before the in point of the incoming media. You have to have extra frames to create a transition on both sides for a centered transition.

Either dub it to DV then capture, Buy a Kona 3 card and downconvert on the fly, or capture full res, and then down convert to offlineHD 25fps… there’s a preset for this.

After you create a multiclip, you can move the cameras into the positions you’d like in the Viewer by dragging them to an eariler or later camera number holding down the option key. Otherwise, I believe they order themselves in alphabetical order, overrideing the way you’ve set them up in the Browser using thumbnails.

It has to do with wether or not the media on both sides of a centered transition exists. If you don’t have unused media after the cut of the outgoing clip and before the in point of the incoming clip, you cannot add a transition. If you double click a transition, it will open in the transition editor replacing the viewer. The light blue on either side of the tranistion in the clips represent unused media, if there’s not enough, you can’t add a transition.

I have a dual 2 gig G5. The MacBook Pro I saw running Studio and Shake with DVCPRO100 media worked really great, so DV and HDV should be a breeze for it. AND is Faster than my dual 2 gig G5. It’s incredible because it’s a laptop, 17″ but transportable. Arguably one of the fastest in the world. 5.1 rocks on it. Apps open really fast too on it. remarkable. The Quad G5 is faster than the MacBook though, and it’s more expandable. What you want to do will work fine on the laptop, but past that a ton right now probably not.

You can zoom in on the waveform in the Viewer or Timeline, and drop out the audio in increments of 100th of a frame with key frame indicators, and simply dropping the obvious waveform of the pop if they are in the middle of something.
2 frame audio dissolves sometimes makes them go away between cuts if you are sure to render them.
Listen to your mix using monitoring on the samel level of speaker system you’re program’s audience will use, AND with the best you can afford. And mix it with your ears, not levels per se.
Average peak at -12 dB on a digital meter and you’re good to go for no digital distortion added.

Put the clips in a Sequence in FCP, and export that sequence. Might try marking an in and out point… this should result in a single file for DVD SP.

Also how did you install FCP 5.1? Did you take the earlier version off first or? Might also post how you got to Tiger… if it wasn’t a clean install, that too could be part of this problem.
