Triple check those settings, and if they are right, then trash your preference file for FCP.
Also be sure of your cable setup. You are routing this thru a mixer and then on to powered speakers or an amp? or is the deck in between? if so make sure it’s set to E/E…

Once you’ve learned any NLE, the next is a LOT easier than the first. Vegas isn’t as close to running FCP as Avid’s software, however the learning curve for FCP is lot lower than for Premiere or for Avid. I’ve taught all three, and the students learn FCP the fastest by far, saying a lot about it’s intuitive interface. so I’m suggesting that you really aren’t going to have a bad time learning FCP. There are a ton of free and pay-for ways of learning FCP, and there’s more literature out there for this than any NLE… it’s because it has the largest user base in the pro world, hands down.

Try trashing FCP prefs. When I’ve seen the dreaded green screen, this fixes it. Might fix the stopping problem too.

You’ll not have any problems with the DVCPROHD codec with the Panasonic camera. Your drives are fast enough for a couple of streams maybe…
The LH can’t capture the HD signal you are sending it to anything but uncompressed HD, so that’s why you’re dropping frames. You need a lot faster setup for that. a Kona 3 with the drivers that are set to be released by the end of this month WILL do what you want, but the LH will only down convert to SD, not cross convert as you are attempting to do now. so don’t worry, buy the Panny and you’ll be good to go without needing faster drives… You’ll use the LH too to monitor, or down convert to SD…

You have a setup problem. Shouldn’t have to render… create a new sequence whose settings are set to the DVCPROHD using the frame rate etc. you captured with.

You’ll have to resize the clips.

There’s not an automatic way to do this… however if you cannot remember the old names, open the “view source” column in the Browser to show you what the newly named clips in the Browser are using as a source file….
Better workflow is to NOT change the name from the original, and use a another column for new information about the clip…. like a comment column. You can move these right next to the name too by draging the header over, or deleting it, then adding it back in another place.

You will have to re-encode… you’ll need to extract the files to boot with a demuxer, edit, then re-encode, because the MPEG for the resulting DVD has to be a single stream, right?
And it won’t be the same as the original because you’re going to be making changes so…Jerry

When you upgraded to Tiger, did you perform a totally clean install of this new OS and Apps? If not I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts that this would fix this.
However try trashing the prefs for FCP, and if that fails reinstall QuickTime. I’ve seen this behavior and it has to do with compression artifact that happens when QT can’t keep up I’m guessing.

You are running FCP 5.0.4? on the Macbook Pro? I was unaware you could run it at all on an intel mac… so it must work through Rosetta? In any event the Universal version should be a lot faster…. there are reports of it being faster on G5’s than 5.0.4 is in fact.
