Hands down buy a Kona product. The LH series will do what most folks need to in SD and HD, however the Kona 3 will do more (the biggie here is cross conversion between HD formats, and native 2K editing)… Both boards capture/edit/control (RS-422) all of the popular formats/decks. Quality and support from AJA is second to NOBODY… I’ve used an SD card, and currently run a Kona 2. My Power Mac won’t support a Kona 3 (it’s a PCIe only card), but all the newest Power Macs do. I be waiting until Mr Intel Power Mac shows up… then all bets are off. If you’re working a lot in SD, the LH card supplies component analog inputs… where the Kona 3 is an SDI only input card. (Though with the addition of an Io LA, you gain component analog inputs with your system, as well as ANOTHER RS-422 controller. With either card though, you’ll want the “give away” breakout K box… Shoot, the connectors are worth more than what AJA asks for the box.
Further, if you take a look at the relationship between Apple and any of their competition, I’d suspect that AJA has the closest because of their Io products. Apple has always worked extrememly closely with AJA and it began with the Io development. Io only works with FCP…

Capture the anamorphic as that, and capture the other 4:3.
Edit in a standard 4:3 sequence. You could export that 16:9 footage as 4:3 letterboxed by placing them in timelines, then you wouldn’t have to render it all as you edit with it.

Soundtrack Pro can do this has a Time Stretch Tool. It also round trips with FCP.

The active viewer is the source if an edit’s made from it to the sequence. There’s not a keyboard shortcut assigned to select any “new viewer” past the Viewer window, (note the word “Viewer” in it’s lable) Cmd+1 activates the Viewer window. But you can go back to the Browser by keyboard command, then by keyboard select the clip and hit the return key and it’s New Viewer becomes the active source window so that’s the keyboard shortcut to it.

Try marking an in and out point at the head and tail of the sequence, then export a non self contained QT movie and then encode that file.

You most likely still have a media file problem sounds like. Only way to check is putting it in another folder and reconnecting just a few at a time.
If the sequences don’t open with all of the media offline, then you have a corrupted project file, otherwise it’s most likely media. If the project file is corrupted, you’ll need to open a backup or autosave file.

Well for starters you need to stripe identcal drives at least in capacity… I’d actually want them to be the same model too. At least the same spec… 7200 RPM and 8mb of disk cache and the same capacity. The smallest capacity drive will ‘force’ the other drives to be that size too in a raid as I recall.

You can export from iTunes as an aif@ 48kHz directly and save it to a scratch disk all from the iTunes Exporting prefs…
