You need to create a sequence setting that matches the format of the source material… select one of these clips and type cmd+9 to open the properties of the clip. Then create a custom sequence setting that matches… then you won’t have to render. (using the same codec and frame size which in your case is AVI.

The TC on the 24fps files isn’t going to match the timecode of the 29.97 tapes either, so your best bet is to recapture/re edit in29.97 and export the list, or just tweak it sort of manually in the Flame… i.e. the last frame before a second will go up in a 24 fps video file is going to be like 1:00:00:23, where the last frame on the tape at that point will be 1:00:00:29… And you need to recapture with the the 29.97 TC for all to come out OK I’d think.

24 fps EDL’s probably aren’t going to work using any EDL export format… it’s because their development ceased a long long time ago… as in over 17 years ago…

It doesn’t support it because it would be MPEG files trying to be mixed with aiffs, and all I frame video so figure it would take way too much computer overhead to mix the two in the same sequence.
FWIW though, MP3’s are pretty awful audio… AA for short, and you’d be a lot better off quality wise not using them at all, but getting the original audio and working with those files or tapes.

MP3 editing isn’t supported in FCP… it’s not that it should but doesn’t do well, it’s that it’s not supported.

Check to see if the playback options in the oval button on the upper right side of the Canvas is set to RGB… if not, change it…. if this isn’t the problem, try trashing prefs…

Try resetting the PMU switch on your Mac’s motherboard. Disconnect the power cable then open it up and push the button. There are articles about where this button is on apple’s support site. What it does is reset all power management on all busses…. and zaps the pram etc… all in one quick move. If this fails, your card is probably fried.

It should be as easy as importing the two files as an asset, then draging them together to a button and select “make track, connect to track”…
