  • Letterbox and anamorphic lens shots in same timeline – output to dvdsp – help!

I have a sequence I am cutting for a project demo made up of shots taken with a DVX100a and anamorphic adapter, and one shot taken in letterbox format. I am outputting this to DVD Studio Pro 4, and cannot seem to get the anamorphic and letterbox shots to look the same way. What do my capture and sequence presets need to be in FCP for both of these critters to coexist peacefully in ‘widescreen’ format, and are there any special settings needed in DVDSP to further accomplish this? The DVD will be viewed on both laptops and on regular TV’s.

Also – what books / DVD’s / online tutorials do you recommend for me to learn DVDSP? I find the Apple manual that comes with it to be, well, unhelpful for my level at present.

    Many thanks.

Capture the anamorphic as that, and capture the other 4:3.

Edit in a standard 4:3 sequence. You could export that 16:9 footage as 4:3 letterboxed by placing them in timelines, then you wouldn’t have to render it all as you edit with it.

    Thanks for your reply, Jerry.

Capturing the anamorphic footage: should my capture presets aspect ratio be NTSC 4:3 or 3:2, and yes the anamorphic box should be checked? What should be my capture preset settings for the footage that I shot in letterbox mode?

Likewise will my sequence preset Frame Size aspect ratio be 4:3 rather than 3:2, and will my pixel aspect ratio will be NTSC – CCIR 601 etc with the anamorphic box unchecked?

I am hoping to do this where there will be no loss in quality in the footage if possible.

    Many thanks again..
