That’s a good point… I do hear pops if the media is an MP3 or other highly compressed file.

I’ve not seen this behavior at all, and about the only difference between my setup and yours is that my media is local and not being accessed through an XSan…

You can’t “reconnect” the media in the sequence? (Just select all the clips in the sequence, then right click on one of them and select “reconnect media”.

That’s the problem! You’re not using the Kona card.
In order to do it that way you have to down convert the HD to SD in a sequence or file export then print the DV PAL file you’ve created to tape.
It’s the Kona card doing the down conversion in my first answer, and you’re not going through that… you could use the card, then use analog cables (if your recording device doesn’t have a digital input other than the FireWire) to your recording device and then the card will do the down conversion.

I’ve no idea why this seems to have fixed you up… I know just enough about it to be dangerous.
But normally, if you’re dropping frames it’s because the hard drive playing back the file isn’t keeping up. That’s why media drives are always recommended. Course, an H.264 movie isn’t that big a file, but still if this file is on your startup disk, (especially a slow laptop internal) You can have problems dropping frames…

There’s Episode Pro 6 with the audio option added and Sorenson’s Squeeze likely has a workflow for this. Might want to look at them… they are slightly different from each other. But those two apps are the premiere desktop encoding solutions.
I was about to suggest the speed change BTW.. it’s been used successfully before.
