Do you have the Kona Control Panel installed?

If yes: go to the setup tab and look at the audio setup. Is the “Lock input Audio Gain to Unity” checked? If yes, uncheck but buyer beware, this could mess up your settings later on.

If no, then my advice would be capture as it is and “fix it in post”.

Aja/Kona 2 generally use the Apple codecs. If you have the Kona 2 software installed, AJA has codecs for use with different situations if you so desire. look in your hard drive>library>quicktime folder, and copy whatever codecs you want from your FCP machine to your “web machine”.

look into revision f/x for a plug in called twixtor. A little pricey, but well well worth the money if you need high quality time remap & slo mo.

Kona uses the apple codecs and you must install the uncompressed codecs from your FCP machine to your AE machine.

Look in your Hard Drive>library>quicktime folder and look for the FCP Uncompressed 422.component file.

Take that file and drop it in the same folder on your AE machine.

Photoshop cs does not have video output at all so stop trying to output directly from photoshop right there.

1280×720 is not what it has to be.

DO all of the other suggested steps in my post, then go to the apple display preferences and open them. There’s a tick box that shows “Show displays in menu bar”, make sure that is on. Now, there’s a little icon in the menu bar that looks like an apple display. It should be up on the right side next to the clock. Click it and you should see list of displays and their corresponding resolutions, scroll down to the one that says “display” and choose 720×486. Now you should see a picture on your NTSC monitor. If you want to preview your photoshop you must drag the window over to your NTSC monitor. If this doesn’t work, something is screwed up and you should probably quit and go home early.

At the moment, Photohsop CS2 does not support video out, unless it is over firewire. You can plug in a dv deck/camera to the firewire port of your G5 and then hook the deck out to your NTSC monitor.

For after effects, you simply select the video out in the preferences, in your case, Kona 720×480 dv ntsc or 720×486.

If you want to use your NTSC monitor as an extended desktop, you download and install the kona control panel and click on the control tab. Set the default KOna output to Macintosh desktop. Then, click on the format tab and set your primary video format to 525i29.97. Click on the analog video out tab and make sure that the primary radio button is checked. Also, make sure that the analog component output of your Kona is connected the the analog input of your NTSC monitor.
