Is your hard drive and DV deck separated on different busses, or are they sharing the same bus?
You should consider getting a firewire PCMCIA adapter to separate your external firewire drive and your dv deck.

The decklink extreme, I believe, is an SD only card. It won’t handle HDV, unless you plan to edit your HDV in SD.
I have a Kona 2 (not LH) and it works fantastically for my purposes. I tried decklink both SD and HD cards, and the Kona 2 has been far less problematic, but I’m just one guy with one opinion. If you are planning on downconverting your material, double check decklink’s settings and I’m not sure they can handle downconversion in hardware just yet. I know for a fact that 720p24 downconversion used to not be available at all on any of their cards, but maybe that has changed.

For the record, it’s QT7, Tiger, and FCP 4.5.
The recommended set up for FCP 4.5 is 10.3.8 & QT 6.5.2

Are his findings based on reality of what he sees, or what he thinks might happen? Flash video is lossy anyway, that’s why it plays so well on the web. It sounds like you two are arguing apples & oranges. If you are using the dv codec, that is lossy, and then to go into ae and render to another lossy format, what is to be expected? Without seeing anything, I’m not sure what he means by artifacts and where he sees them or where they are coming from. Are you giving him the flash movie or are you giving him a higher quality movie?

Also, a fresh install of Tiger (not an upgrade) is highly recommended. You could also try and uninstall & reinstall FCP.

Do you have any other drives attached? Shut down. Unplug everything except your keyboard. Turn it back on. plug in your camera, then turn it on. Launch FCP. Hit control-q to do dv ntsc easy set up. or upgrade to fcp 5.

This has to do with Quicktime 7 and Tiger. QT7 and FCP 4.5 sometimes don’t play well. QT7 plays much better with FCP5, but maybe you will be fine.

This is the first line of the notice and this totally pertians to your situation and does not have to do with FCP5 at all.

The only way to be sure is to preview it on a square pixel monitor (such as your computer). Why do they want square pixels anyway? What format is the final output? The easiest way to test all of this is to export a circle still image or movie in FCP using the circle generator at your pal dv settings. Then bring this movie or still into a square pix ae comp and render out at the final settings that they are going to use and view it on whatever kind of monitor they are going to view it on. If the circle looks symmetrical, you know you have the right settings, if the circle looks squished, then your settings are wrong and you must interpret accordingly in AE. You must view the final movie on whatever type of monitor/system the final delivery will be playing on.
