I’m very happy with mine, but have had som calibration issues with image looking different from component and SDI. Haven’t really figured thisone out yet, but I think I’ve read that the HVX component might not be state of the art. (Dunno where, but this might be wrong…)

For focus, this is a totally neccesary tool. Only wish I could afford the battery pack…

It was a system problem. I had to get rid of all the files and start the machine in safe (!) mode to be able to re-format the soft-raided disks.

    Done!

    Hi! FAntastic!

Didn’t know you could do VFR with the FS.

What do you use, when on Mac. XP coud be an option, too..

  • OK

    RTFM ! -;)

What I’m sorta wondering, is how big the differnece between the component and SDI signal is.

What I’m getting from the component out of the hvx with a “normal” gamma on the monitor, looks pretty much what I get from FCP with the “film gamma” preset on the monitor played through SDI.

I agree they should be different, (Maybe, at least… from the monitor gamma presets), but which am I to trust?

Thanks Shane! Worked it out (had to check for audio inclusion).

Yes I wanted the HD-DVD quality.

That format includes both audio and video. It doesn’t separate them like MPEG-2.”

    Hm.

When I choose HD h.264 in Compressor (still on 5.04 on my main system) I have to choose encoding for audio & video separately.

    I’ll do some testing.

Seems I can assemble a good setup with quicktime (testing right now.)

    Thanks!

I think FCP might need 512 Megabytes for its own – not shared with the system.

    Odd.

I turned off the “high Precision” settings – and it worked out.

    Any idea as to why?

  • All the above agreed to -;)

I’m on a budget, too and have bothe the Cinemadisplay/Decklink/HD-Link solution and the panny HD 17″.

I Bought the Panny for two reasons:

    1. Shooting HD with the HVX without some sort of external HD monitoring seems rather risky, as you cannot correctly determine focus from the LCD flipout or viewfinder (Even with focus assist and the edge-enhancement turned on).

    2. I was never happy with the Decklink solution for monitoring.

So even though I don’t get pixel-accurate monitoring in 1080 on the panny, I much prefer working on it colorwise than the HD-Link.

I’ll keep the box to have the pixel-option ready when needed, though.
