    True.

My guess is that jcondne is not a “studio” in that sense.

But I may be way off…

Well, you will not get “super high quality” still frames from the HVX.

Theoretically you should be able to copy a 1080 frame to roughly 16×9 cm @ 300 dpi.
(Open file in QT, find frame, hit copy, paste into new photoshop document)

    BUT
I wouldn’t say that you’d get more than half that size as a decent print, due to the color compression.

I have (and love) the HVX, but it isn’t a still camera…

But, you could do with some heavy post’ing compositing i in photoshop. In that case framegrabs will be ok.

If you’re editing DV – you’ll be able to monitor through the camera. If not, you’ll have to shel out for a card and a production monitor.

OK, this is a scetchy question, but here is an answer.

Buy something like the STARDOM SOHOTANK
    https://www.stardom.com.tw/web/pro-sohotank.htm

These cabinets will give you a quick, easy and cheap way to connect standard SATA drives to FW 800/400.

Buy off-the-shelf SATA drives, when you need them, and fill’em up.

Archive the drives safely and well marked

    Cheers!

One nice way of grabbing frames, is to open the file in Quicktime, select the desired frame and hit copy and paste directly into a new photoshop document.

You can have a look at the result here:

    Hi.

This is about the most hated feature of FCP at the moment, it does not support 720 p25 at all.

Luckilly for you and all of us this is about to change rather soon with a free 5.1.1 to 5.1.2 update shown at IBC these days.

There are workarounds – other than the one you describe:

    1. Use Edius or raylight in Windows
    2. Buy P2 log, install an intermediate quicktime codec and remove one of the standard codecs. This comes with a price when doing standard QT operations, though

I bought p2 log, and cannot say I’m too happy.
I’ll just wait for the FCP update.
