    Hi All,

Have been having some trouble lately working out the best way to get pal footage happening in FCP from the P2 Camera. We have been shooting in the various slow mo frame rates at 720 but then cant import it into FCP, each time we do we get an import errror. The only work around has been to get the rental house to dump it to Digibeta via the camera, since we’ve been finishing in SD this is fine, but would really like to sort the problem, any thoughts? Much appreciated 🙂

Support for PAL in that camera is due from Apple in one month when they release FCP 5.1.2. Currently the only solution is with the P2 LOG software from imagineproducts.com. Converts the 25p into a 50i stream that you can edit.

    Hi.

This is about the most hated feature of FCP at the moment, it does not support 720 p25 at all.

Luckilly for you and all of us this is about to change rather soon with a free 5.1.1 to 5.1.2 update shown at IBC these days.

There are workarounds – other than the one you describe:

    1. Use Edius or raylight in Windows
    2. Buy P2 log, install an intermediate quicktime codec and remove one of the standard codecs. This comes with a price when doing standard QT operations, though

I bought p2 log, and cannot say I’m too happy.
I’ll just wait for the FCP update.
