  • Suggestions on video monitoring HD footage from HVX200 from FCP..?

Hi all. We’re in the process of acquiring an HVX200 and getting both our edit suites retrofitted for HD. But we can only go bare bones for now. So, question is…what video monitors are recommended in order to view the HD footage from the HVX200 on a FCP timeline? We’re looking to spend around $6,000 total for two monitors. I was looking at two 21-inch Sony LUMA monitors (model # Sony LMD-212S), but I’m not sure anymore, because these were monitors thatw e considered back when we thought about getting into HDV. But now we’re getting into the HVX200 instead. Now, how would we hook the monitors up? Via the camera (and how), or do we need any kind of “AJA” card or something, that goes inside the Mac? Either way, right now, we can only purchase one camera with a few cards, one P2 Store, and two HD-compatible video monitors. We’ve already acquired dual 23″ cinema displays and 1TB Apple XSERVE raids for both rooms, so we’re almost good to go (I think).

    Thanks for your help.

The cheapest solution, that still gives you full HD would be something like this:

Decklink HD card – lowest cost: $700
    Decklin HDLink – $700.00
Apple 23 inch Cinemadisplay: $1299 (on sale for $1100 sometimes)

    Total: $2700.00 per station.

It not only gives you mopnitoring, but it also gives you full HD input and output

On the otherhand, you could wait for the release of the Matrox device that will output to a 3rd cinema display. That would still present a price of about $2500.00

    I am using solution 1, except I have a Kona 2 Card.

    It works well for me.

    Welcome aboard

Also a great Multiformat CRT HD monitor would do the trick. LCDs and Cinemadisplays are cheaper than an HD monitor but they still do not come anywhere near the clarity and definition of a CRT.

The HD SDI card option. If you look up the monitor at http://www.bhphoto.com it will show you that card as an accessory.

I was looking into getting the JVC CRT. I lookled at the Sony and JVC’s at NAB and I thought the JVC’s looked a little better. Normaly I would think Sony would have been the best since I own a Sony SD monitor and they have one of the best reputaions. But you still need to buy the cards for the monitors which puts them in the 4K to 5K range.

CRT monitors are being discontinued from what they say. There is some new ROSE standard that is happening in Eurpoe where no products can have mercury if I understand it right. That is one of the reasons that the DVX-100b came to be.

I can’t imagine not using CRT’s since they look so much better then flat screens. I’ll take a tube over a flat any day.

[doka15] “CRT monitors are being discontinued from what they say.”

I heard Sony was dropping PVM but would continue manufacturing BVM series. I hope there is no new news to the contrary. Sony crt’s are the best.

Stick with the Sony- if I walk into a color correction suite and I see JVC monitors I walk right out…
