Depending on the cash at hand you could go with Lectrosonics. Simply the best (also the most $$$) The ATs and Azden 500s are very good units as well. I’ve been using 2 of the Azden 500 for over 4 years and have never had a problem even when faced with 5 or so other vid guys shooting a breaking news event or news conference. Of course we all run around and check each others freqs but with 63 user changable freqs (easily changed) its never been a problem.

December 22, 2005 at 8:02 pm in reply to: removing audio buzz

Depending on how bad a buzz it is you might try this (just to see if it works-I’ve done it a few times for a soft background hum)
Highlight the clip-right click, goto ‘Apply NON real time Event FX’-this will bring up audio effects. Goto ‘TRACK EQ’ and grab #1 while the audio is playing-pull the EQ down and to the RIGHT until the voice or music changes. Back off a smidge (how much is a smidge?) and press OK. You now have a 2nd take of the audio. See how it sounds thru out-if its OK you’re set-if not you can go back in and either play with it some more OR go back to the original TAKE and you haven’t lost anything.
Can’t promise it’ll work but it might just-it has for me.

December 12, 2005 at 3:22 am in reply to: Two preview panels?

If you’re talking about putting the video preview on a seperate monitor, yes it can be done. Grab the preview screen (the dots under the arrow) and undock it from the rest of the tabs and you can move it anywhere. Resize the screen and you’ll be good to go. I run my preview and audio busses on my 2nd screen.
Hope this is what you were looking for.

    Ralph,
I was a paratrooper in Vietnam and the only OFFICAL jump in Vietnam was in February of 1967. Operation Junction City in the Central Highlands. The 503rd infantry 173rd Airborne Brigade (seperate) made the only officially recognized paratrooper jump of the war. If you google the 173rd airborne brigade you may come up with some footage.

December 4, 2005 at 10:25 pm in reply to: need help with a blurring problem

    Jason,
IF you have certain other things running like antivirus it MAY affect the playback. Turn off anti virus to see how that works. Also have you put any thing onto the clip such as slow motion, color correction or any other type of effect. Effects MAY slow down the p;ayback and give a jerky motion. I did see where you said the test MPEG and DVD were the same so as much as I hate to say it you might want to recapture the footage (a portion of it where you have the jerky motion anyway) just to see if it was in the capture.
Just throwing ideas out right now to see if anything helps.

  • Jay,
I’m sorry to hear or I should say see about your bad experience with Carnival. My wife and I have taken 10 cruises with them and shes going on another saturday and honestly we’ve always had a great time and good service from them. I must say however that your complaint “letter” was extremely well done and frankly kind of had me laughing a bit not at what happened but the way you related it. I would be very surprised if you don’t get not only a response but perhaps even the response you are hoping for (the trip mentioned at the end). It was a very well done peice and I can only tell you that if that had happened to me, I doubt I would be so calm, I probably would have exploded.
I really hope they do something for you and your family. Keep us up to date.

He’s located just outside of Chicago and does great work and is very easy to work with. Tell him Don B. sent you. (that won’t get you OR me anything but at least he’ll know who recommended him ;-0)

insert a volume envelope in the track and place 4 nodes (points) where you need to lower the volume pul the level to where you need it(generally around -12db but its up to you)and you’re set to go.

October 25, 2005 at 8:02 pm in reply to: dvd out of sync

I had that happen on DVDA2 just once and the only thing I had done differently than any other burn was to do a 2 pass encode. Strange thing was only 2 small portions of the video were out of sync by 12 frames and it was in the same clip. Go figure?!?!?
Anway I re-encoded as a single pass and lo and behold it was fine. I still haven’t figured it out but perhaps if you encoded using 2 pass you might try a single pass on it.
