seems to me the method you describe there is NO difference between the 2 tracks = most that use this method do something to one of the tracks ( add fx, offset one field, one track B&W etc) …

April 25, 2005 at 2:52 pm in reply to: 24p vs 24p advanced

if you want to render out 24p DVD’s/web and edit at 24fps then shoot ADVANCED pulldown. 24pA is very easy to pull out the extra 5th frame and edit 24p in the Time line … you can then render out 24p DVD’s .. for going back to tape render out using normal pull down. 24pA was created to make pull down EASY ( fake every 5th frame created). 24pA is not as smooth as normal pull down but again Advanced was always meant to be removed …

just make sure your hard drives have the thru-put for the uncompressed HD ( ?? 122mgs ?) = you’ll need a RAID … the HDV will be no problem ( either as mpeg or cineform files)

you have to look outside the “box” ..
but you’ve already stated don’t give you the “future” so go buy the sony and many will go with you BUT many will go with the P2 knowing that as it comes into play solutions will come along …sort of like when HDV was introduced there was huge NLE problems with it.. looking around at NAB 2005 seems every NLE has HDV solutions. BUT again if you are going by what is available TODAY you are correct and lets face it the camera will not be ready till 4th quarter so it doesn’t exist ( the chips/electronic’s etc don’t exist..they only have a non working mock up) ) so why are we having this conversation? the JVC and sony do exist and solutions are here today …

i did see sony Vegas 6 take 1080i and render/convert out to 24p & 30p and it looked very, very good ( IMO forget shooting in their 24/30 modes ) ..the JVC shoots 24p ..

  • YES you are missing the cineform codec …
V5 does NOT include the cineform codec.
you might just be seeing the “presets” for those that have the cineform codec to use with V5 … … it looks like crap because you aren’t rendering with cineform ?
V6 does include the cineform codec

but it does take V5 awhile to convert the HD mpeg files to cineform codec = comes down to CPU power …

is the resizing just slight or a big difference ?

if slight could be he or you doesn’t have Vegas preview set to “simulate device aspect ratio ” checked … or maybe your screen size is set to 1280×960 and his is 1280×1080
