Ok Vegas 5’s latest version comes reconfigured with CINEFORM’s HDV intermediate Codect. Is it Just me or does this look like crap? Like most of the presets in Vegas you have to tweak them a bit to get the best quality but I must be missing something here. Ya it plays back smoothly but the color is all graining and it looks like some one over used a jpeg smoothing effect in photo shop over blending the colors, loosing depth and detail. I figured it was just when watching it but it takes that great crappy picture and caries it over into what ever format I render it into. Not to mention it takes a while to convert to CINEFORM. I find it faster, and higher quality to edit natively as mpeg and render draft avi DV files for referencing complex edits. If I have the room I will use huffy. The Huffy codec is renders fast especial when rendering huffy avi to huffy avi and looks great. most of the time I am rendering to DVD and Windows Media High Defintion Video so I just set my edits and render it right to those formats and it looks great. I am confused about cineform. am I missing the purpose of the codect or is JVC and every one elks raving about a different codect then what Vegas previously has packaged? Also incidentally Vegas also seams to have screwed up the preset for 720 30p HDV making it a VRB instead of CRB MPEG-TS. Not a biggy since I have been doing HDV since Vegas 4 and the first version of 5 and had aready made my own preset

YES you are missing the cineform codec …
V5 does NOT include the cineform codec.
you might just be seeing the “presets” for those that have the cineform codec to use with V5 … … it looks like crap because you aren’t rendering with cineform ?
V6 does include the cineform codec

but it does take V5 awhile to convert the HD mpeg files to cineform codec = comes down to CPU power …

It says it is a cineform codect but maybe it is not the cineform codect. this is the latest down load I am talking about not a boxed set. It comes with all sorts of HDV presets. I was hoping I just had to put in the right #s and get it to look better. I’ll just stick with what works for now. I have done all sorts of tests from free codects to codects you have to pay for with the exception of Conect HD. Huffy still come out as the winner in speed and quality. The best thing is it is free. The only down fall is that it requres a lot of drive space.
