if you have many still photo’s in the project you could try setting RAM preview to zero and/or clear ram before you start the render ..
IMO install V5d so you have the newest version just in case there was a mpeg render bug/problem in version V5B ? if there was a bug/problem then we could go on for days with suggestions and the fix would be a simple loading in V5d

July 12, 2005 at 8:05 pm in reply to: Best Quality for Video & Audio in Vegas6: What Properties?in V6 explorer ( check summary view) just highlight the clip and below on the V grey area it will tell you 720x480x24 etc.. interlace/progressive ..
if using V6 project media to look at current clips in project – again highlight clip and below it will tell you 720×480 etc AND will also tell you the field order – lower/upper then it is interlace .. if it says field order NONE then it is progressive …

July 12, 2005 at 3:26 pm in reply to: Best Quality for Video & Audio in Vegas6: What Properties?re: project properties .. if audio is 32K/16bit the final audio will be determined by your final RENDER AS .. if you choose to render as DV.NTSC then the audio will be 48k/16bit .. is you choose to render as MPEG2 for DVD then it will use those spec’s for the audio .. on some media spec’s you can choose the audio 22K, 32k , 48k , 96k etc ..
re: field order … if your original clips are interlace then IMO keep them interlace for best DVD/TV viewing … it may not be the BEST for computer/web viewing but it’s all a give/take .. you could render out a version for computer/web viewing which then would be progressive .. changing interlace clips to progressive you will loose some quality .. if your clips are progressive/frame mode then keep your project as progressive and you have the BEST of DVD viewing on DVD-NTSC & web/computer …

using the LaCie Bigger Disk 1 terabyte 800/400/USB2 which has 4 250gig drives RAID 0 ..
it works .. note it is slower then a single internal 7200rpm ATA /SATA drive.. last time i tested it =around 32Mbs read/writes USB2/1394a.. 1394b(800) = 42Mbs .. a single internal 250gig drive is around 47Mbs read/writes … the LaCie is approx $799-899 area … -
if you are using pan/crop on video teh dark border could be because the camera is not using all the 720×480 pixels ( canons tend not to) … if you are panning stills that are not 720×480 and you want them to fill the whole frame you have to make sure you have thge lock aspect ratio ON and use the MATCH aspect ratio the on the 1st key frame

you might try setting RAM preview to ZERO …
make sure you use have dual CPU checked .. -
“When taking into consideration the test above is the audience going to see a difference worth my $55K?”
in general your “test ” really don’t matter … if you can afford 65K plus $$ for lens ( total= 100K +) you can see the difference day-night .. if you can only afford a 6K camera then you’ll ask if the audience is going to see the 55K difference (it’s much more $$ then that)
take a look at TV to see what they are shooting on ? if there was no difference between a hand size dv camera and what ever they are shooting on they would consider the less cost version… the shows/projects that do use hand size dv camera i think you’ll find 90% are because of $$$$$ and the other 10% becuase it fits the look/show/project. you don’t see all the shows/projects switching to $4K HDV camera’s …

June 30, 2005 at 1:32 pm in reply to: Video capture window on Vegas is too bright when previewing during capture..the V capture preview Brightness/contrast/color is controlled by brightness/contrast/color on your monitor ( not your nvidia card) .. your preview window in Vegas is controled by your Nvidia card and the controls on the monitor will also affect it..
you’ll have to find a balance between the 2 .. you might set your nvidia card to a nuetral position. you could either pop up SMPTE color bars in QT or WMP players ( which also are not controlled by nvidia card) and use the monitor controls to set the monitor to bars … i doubt if you can set it up exactly but you should be in the ball park …
pop up SMPTE bars in Vegas preview and then use the nvidia controls to fine tune them ….
