I have a project 9 minutes long consisting of two scrolling text events, two static text events, and two generated color backgrounds. Two of the text events are scrolling lists of single vocabulary words in English and Spanish, 74 words in all. One scrolling text event has the English and the other the Spanish. The other two text events place single words in a larger font across the center of screen – they overlay each pair of scrolling pairs of words as they pass the center of the screen.

My system hums along nicely for editing video but on this project it is agonizingly slow. For example, making a change to a single word in any one of the text events takes 10 to 20 seconds for the change to take place and show up on the preview screen. Is this normal for Vegas6? Are there some settings I can optimize to speed up this process?

Number of Rendering Threads was set to 2.
RAM preview was set to 150 and changing it to 0 or anywhere up to 800MB makes no difference. It still takes between 4 and 6 seconds from the time the cursor is moved until it shows up in the preview.

However, Video Preview window was set to “Preview (Auto)”, which has worked fine for all editing up to this project. When I changed it to “Draft (Full)” operation speed returned to close to normal. And for this process the resolution on Draft setting will work fine.

    Thanks for your help.
