Internet speed shouldn’t have anything to do with Vegas crashing. First thing I’d do is upgrade to Vegas 9.0c.

I’ve been jumping back and forth between Vegas 9 Pro on 32 bit Win XP and 64 bit Win 7 for months now with no issues.

I’ve been running Vegas 9 Pro on 64 bit Win7 RC1 for months and it works fine, aside from all the ridiculous problems with 9 that are in the 32 bit versions on my XP system also. I can’t speak to how well 8.1 will run on Win 7, but it probably won’t erase all your titles like 9.0a or crash the second you use a firewire preview device like 9.0 AND 9.0b. Don’t mind me, I’m just bitter 😛

You know, 9 pro has been so full of problems that they should just go ahead and release 9c as version 10 and make it a free upgrade. 9 is getting as bad a name as Windows Vista had.

Do you have an external preview device on using a firewire output? That was an issue in 9.0 which got fixed in 9.0a then brought back in 9.0b. If so try disabling the firewire preview and see if that fixes it. I realize that’s not the proper usage of the word “fixes” because if your car’s engine is broken you don’t “fix it” by not using it an taking the bus instead. That’s right Sony, that analogy was for you!

If it’s not the firewire preview then I have no idea, sorry.

Well this probably isn’t a bad place to ask since I know several of us have those model cameras. I have the SR11 but I never use any of the software it came bundled with. If you do have the WinXP files, could you just copy the program files over into Vista and see how it goes? Worth a shot.

September 17, 2009 at 7:36 pm in reply to: Render to YouTube HD (rendering 2 times problem!)

Yes, CBR is constant bitrate. Variable bit rate (along with 2-pass) are options you can use when you’re trying to squeeze the most quality out of your compression. If you’re uploading an HD video to youtube, then once it’s uploaded youtube will recompress anyway. Using 4mbps Constant bit rate like odd magne said will ensure you have a great quality video that youtube can then recompress. Any benefits gained by using 2-pass VBR will not be apparent once youtube recompresses everything, so don’t worry about it.

September 17, 2009 at 7:28 pm in reply to: Vegas 9b External firewire monitor still crashing Vegas

Dave, I’m having the exact same problem. This was an issue in version 9 and I spent forever going back and forth with Sony until they finally said they were able to recreate the problem and a fix would be forthcoming. Then finally 9.0a came and it was fixed, but then the titles were horribly broken. Then finally 9.0b came out and the titles are working again but the firewire preview is back to being broken. I’m starting to think that their solution to fixing 9.0a was to rerelease 9.0 and just call it 9.0b. Sony has really dropped the ball this time around and Vegas will never gain any respect in the industry if they keep this up.

Here’s hoping 9.0d doesn’t just bring back broken titles.

I’ve had my I7 920 running 64bit Win7 for a while now and it’s still no joy editing mts files from my SR11. It looks nice, but the MXF’s from the EX1’s at work are a lot easier to deal with for me. I tried that plugin that lets the GPU handle the mts files, but it was all kinds of buggy. I really wish Sony would build that into Vegas in a way that works.
