Previewing Those Dreaded MTS files
OK maybe AVCHD is the way forward etc but the MTS files I get from my Canon HF11 are so time consuming to preview.
What I need if anyone can recommend:
An EFFICIENT/FAST/QUICK/PRONTO way to preview my clips. I don’t care about preview quality that is not the reason for it.
Example:
I may shoot 50 quick (5 to 180 second) scenes some of which there might be 2 or 3 takes from different angles.
Before I even consider dragging into my sony vegas I would love to quickly thumbnail and watch a crappy preview of the clip, then maybe cut the portion I need. Then it can go to sony vegas. Can anyone offer their KNOWLEDGEABLE biased opinions on software that might offer this? Remember the critical needs! Preview speed, and possible cutting and/or conversion to something Vegas digests quicker. I am sure that doing this process first I could shave 30% off my editing hours.
I’m on Windows XP, I’m an IT pro so I know what can be done and what cannot be done to improve OS/HW there :-). I am not a MAC user. All I need is a quick shot preview, and know “yep thats the shot I want” Not all this crap with waiting, decompressing etc. SURELY there has to be an ideal down and dirty app that is basically a file manager for EM TEE SSSS (MTS) files ??? :-).
Obviosuly I need lossless transfer.
Consider the anaolgy:
A pile of high Q photos on a table spread out, I very quickly browse over them, see the one I want grab it and cut out the bit I need then drop it in my good box. I don’t need to look at it with a magnifying glass. I don’t need an accurate guilotine.Bueller anyone? I’ll buy you a beer 🙂
Cheers for all that you do in this cool forum!!
