I have Vegas pro 9.b on a 3.4 Gh machine and it simply locks up while viewing/edeiting the time line. I have to use task manager to close the program and when I re-open it gives me the standard message about improper closing and will re-open the project but none of the previous work is saved. Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

What kind of footage is on your timeline?
Do you have a lot of FX on them?
    What OS?
    How much RAM?
    How many hard drives?

    Thanks Mike

SD-AVI & HD, but not at the same time
    XP-Pro with all updates
    4Gb ram
    Pentium 3.4 Ghz processor
    No effects, stills etc.

I’m simply trying to rough cut some footage.

This machine performed flawlessly with version 8 no matter what effects, stills, audio sweetening etc. I threw at it.

It is really becoming an agravation!

Do you have an external preview device on using a firewire output? That was an issue in 9.0 which got fixed in 9.0a then brought back in 9.0b. If so try disabling the firewire preview and see if that fixes it. I realize that’s not the proper usage of the word “fixes” because if your car’s engine is broken you don’t “fix it” by not using it an taking the bus instead. That’s right Sony, that analogy was for you!

If it’s not the firewire preview then I have no idea, sorry.

Haven’t tried firewire monitors because of the problems you mentioned. I’m using dual monitor CRTs

Do you have a lot of video clips? I have had this type of problem when the number of clips in the Project Media manager exceeded 40 or 50 clips.

I have had this problem with Vegas 8.0 – 8.1 as well as Vegas 9.1. Hope Sony can fix it.
