I have just the opposite problem.
All of our 3/4″ machines work, the ones we still have, but the tapes are failing; the oxide is crumbling off the base. We can no longer play any of our tapes on anything. And yet we need to recapture these images and events.

So, I’m ALWAYS looking for someone who knows someone who knows aof s ervice that specializes in recovery of 3/4″ legacy.

Keep AE6 and 6.5, for sure.

I am running AE7 on a last gen non-core dual 2.7 G5. It is kinda clunky compared to 6.5 on the same machine but I have very few problems.

Back in the olden days, when CoSA took a weekend to render ten seconds of one layer, we saw this post often. Our usual response was to buy some pyrotechnic supplies from a magician supply shop, and shoot it. You can find A-B fire fluids that offer some interesting control over the course of a fire as well as colored flames, spark and flash powders. Print ten or fifteen copies of your shots and have some fun.

    Here’s another:
    Draw your line.
Apply Cycore or Boris Sphere to the line layer.
This will give you a trajectory up into the sky above the map.

June 15, 2006 at 9:28 pm in reply to: has anyone created a kaleidoscope effect before?

there are many kaleidoscope filters and simulators for AE. You can also use nested mirror effects for more control.

the problem is getting a feel for what the controls do and how to predict the outcome. I have only one suggestion for you: Find a still image that contains almost no duplicated subject matter. Place a 3×3 or 4×4 grid over it made out of four or six different colored lines.
    Play with the controls.
This can take several hours of goofing around. You want to be able to deliver when your client makes a request.

    > Ok I’ve read through every post on the matter here at Creative Cow and it seems as though the problem was a corrupted Quicktime Pro .pkg file. Trashing it like the FCP prefs did the job.< Okay, never mind then. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

If the file on the tape isn’t in the format you’ve specified in the capture settings, it won’t show up. That is, say your tape was recorded in PAL. You won’t see it if your settings are NTSC.
    Wild chance.

There have been several dozen Preview Disabled threads in the last few months, try searching.

Yar, this drives me completely nuts. There really should be a pref for this. Media 100 left you at the start of your edit because that’s what their tests showed most people needed.

Anyway, the only way I know of is to hit previous edit which is the colon/semicolon key :;.
That doesn’t always give you want you want, though, because of those nasty autoselect thingies.

Just guessing, the uvw1800 insert functions may not be accessible form the controller you are using. There is a hidden set of menus for insert editing available from the 1800’s panel. Danged if I can remember how to access them. There may be a sticker on the inside of the top lid or check the anceitn manual.
