Back in the olden days, I edited two-camera shoots by syncing the two clips. turning off the secondary camera (on my shoots, there’s always a primary camera from which most of the footage is used), and razor-blading the primary camera to remove all of the unusable footage, stuff that absolutely cannot be used. This resulted in a v1 track that had gaping holes.

This is a networking issue and you must resolve it with your IT people.

If your boss is running Winderz and your server is a Mac, not likely. If you’re boss is running a Macintosh and your server is a Winderz box, not without IT’s help.

If your boss and the server are both Winderz boxes, it’s not an issue at all except your Mac email app may not like the file path you attempt to paste into the message.

There are million stupid things that can prevent your boss from getting to the file if he/she is incapable of understanding file paths. we have found it’s easier to post a clip on our .mac account and give clients a simple URL.

I’d check the v5.1 minimum requirements very carefully. The old system on which you were running v3 may or may not have the guts and graphics support to give you satisfactory performance with v5.1’s other features like Motion. Your upgrade may get VERY expensive if you include the new G5.

Only if you have the AVI codec on your Macintosh. AVI had hundreds of PC-only codecs and hardly any of them were ever ported to Macintosh.

short answer: not likely but the only way you’re oging to know is to try it since there are too many variables.

If you need to make a bunch of WMV a tthe best quality, buy a cheap PC that will run Windows WMP encoding suite. It’s free and super fast. Using the not-inexpensive Mac tools is fun and it feels right but it’s silly to tie up a perfectly good Mac to spit out .wmv when a $200 PC will do it for you for free.

And be aware of the restrictions on the file formats you get out of both of these products. Read the fine print carefully. You may not be able to create files your PC users can actually use.
Umm, we use Flip4Mac and it takes for freakin’ ever! My dual 2.7 (non-core) G5 took more than 10 hours to encode less than 30 minutes of DV material.

< There shouldn't be any limit on how long you can capture. You can recapture the entire trio of 90 minute clips, just change your prefs. I don't like to work with 90 minute sequences. Too much can go wrong. I'd suggest you recapture properly and create three slightly overlapping sequences or projects. But that's just me. Multiclip is fascinating but I'm finding it a ridiculously complex implementation with far too many weird options that just get in the way of the work I need to do. Be sure to activate the Multiclip layout so you have access to the pre-made button bars. Good luck and please let us know how you make out. Yes, you certainly can. However, your sequence settings will determine the quality and flexibility of your output. That is, you can have many different types of media in your project but a sequence can only have one setting. All media used in that sequence that does not conform to that setting precisely will need to be rendered or converted before it can be viewed in realtime.
