[Steve Connor] “OK so the rumour is that they are scrapping it by 2008”

That’s interesting considering they did a pretty big demonstration of it at the FCPUG SuperMeet at NAB this year. It is a great price drop, but if they truly are goign to drop it by 2008, that would really be terrible to learn the interface and get really good using it right at the point the product goes away.

It would pay for itself in one keying job I would think – It’s a fairly difficult interface to get used to, but even if you didn’t use many of it’s features, it is still a handy add-on for FCP to have sitting on your Desktop, it now costs less than some plug-ins!

What’s your basis for the “scrapping it by 2008” rumor? Have you read this somewhere?

It would be a shame to see Shake go by the wayside. If the rumour is true, I can only hope that the capabilities are roled into further updates of Motion.

Like many, we figured it would be rolled into the “FCP Extreme” product. At $10K, it’s got to have some serious additional capability. If true, it’s another brillant marketing move by Apple… sell Shake cheap and get us all hooked and trained, so we end up justifying the FCP Extreme purchase…

Where is the hue and cry over the price drop? Where are the recent Shake purchasers who are screaming “RIPOFF?”

Man, you should have heard the photogs shriek when Apple dropped Aperture’s price from $500 to $300!

I’d think that the the users that really need Shake aren’t especially price-conscious.

If someone needed compositing features not found in FCP but was put-off by Shake’s price tag that someone would have other options.

[bogiesan] “Man, you should have heard the photogs shriek when Apple dropped Aperture’s price from $500 to $300!”

Yeah, but Apple gave those purchasers a $200 credit for the Apple Store, which is pretty unheard of in the software industry (and I believe a nice gesture).

I am subscribing to the belief that Apple’s next generation of compositing tools will be built for realtime features, so that they can go head to head with Flame workstations. This may all be part of a new tier of premium tools (as if Shake wasn’t premium to begin with) like this Final Cut Extreme rumour.
