  • What Support Materials Come with FCP 5.1?

My day job causes me to work on a Avid MC Aderanline HD, which replaced our FCP v3 system two years ago. Well, I bought our old system for my night gig, and I’m looking to upgrade to FCP v5.1

I’ve heard a couple of different things, such as I won’t get any manuals with the “upgrade” to v5.1. My question to the group is whether or not this is true?

As a novice on v3, and someone who was orginally disspointed with the technical quality produced on/by v3, I’m wondering if anyone has any other thoughts on what I should be “jazzed” about if I take the plunge with v5.1.

    Thanks for your consideration

You dont get any printed manuals with the 5.1 upgrade. It’s assumed you will use your manuals from 5.0, as it is not functionally very different.

FCP 5 is far ahead of FCP 3…too many items to list here. Just go to the Apple website and take the tour.

He’d get all the manuals just like when you upgraded to FCP 5.x. He’s upgrading from version 3.x. He’d be purchasing a full brand new upgrade in the box with discs, manuals, etc. However, whether the boxed versions are up to 5.1 yet who knows. They most likely are since it’s an intel version and they sell them in the stores.

    That’s correct, I am upgrading from v3.

I’d check the v5.1 minimum requirements very carefully. The old system on which you were running v3 may or may not have the guts and graphics support to give you satisfactory performance with v5.1’s other features like Motion. Your upgrade may get VERY expensive if you include the new G5.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
